Man, 40, docked for raping deaf-mute girl in Osogbo

Rape

A 40-year-old man, Kamoru Shittu was, yesterday, arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court by men of Osun State Police Command for allegedly raping a 21-year-old deaf and mute girl in her school.

Shittu was charged with a two-count charge bordering on rape and unlawful assault of the victim identified as Olurunnifise Deborah.

The charge sheet read in part: “That you Kamoru Shittu, aged 40, on March 7, 2016, at about 10p.m. at Osun State Secondary School for persons with Special Needs, Osogbo, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of one female, Olorunifise Deborah, aged 21, a deaf and dumb student of the school.

That you (accused person) on same date and place did unlawfully and indecently assault one Olorunifise Deborah.” The Police prosecutor, Mereti Wilson told the court that Shittu allegedly committed the offence contrary to Section 357 and punishable under Sections 358 and 360 of the criminal code, cap 34, vol. II, laws of Osun State, 2003.

But Shittu pleaded not guilty to the charges and his lawyer, Bola Ige applied for his bail, arguing that the constitution presumed him innocent until the contrary was proved.

However, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. Olowolagba granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount.
