The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Joseph James for killing his four years old daughter, Glory James, and throwing her corpse into a stream.
Joseph,30, from Ibiaku Ikot Udom in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area was said to have taken the girl to the stream in the night when the mother was away.
The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Murtala Mani, said on Wednesday that when he (Joseph) got to the stream, he killed the girl and threw her corpse into the water.
Mani, who said this through the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Cordelia Nwawe, said the suspect had owned up to the crime.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a young man who strangled his daughter and threw her corpse into a stream. Investigation is ongoing,” she said.
Joseph, however, said, “I was sleeping and woke up around 4am. Something told me to take my daughter to the stream, where I killed her. I did not know what really happened.”
He told our correspondent that he was in his house when his mother brought people into his house, who beat him up and handed him over to the police.
Others who were also arrested by the police include Victor Andang from Urue Offong Oruko LGA, for killing his 60 years old uncle, Rev. Esin Andang, and removing his intestine.
Victor was said to have asked his uncle for something which later led to an argument.
Victor said he did not intend to kill his uncle, but could not tell what got into him which made him to murder his uncle.
Four persons – Emmanuel Ikot, Bright Okwong, Ubong Osung and Okon Osu, from Eyo Abasi in the Oron LGA – were also apprehended by some youths in Uko Ntighe in the Mbo LGA and handed over to the police.
They were allegedly found with a skull while looking for a buyer at the rate of N3,000.
