Police parade suspected robbers in Abia


THE Abia State Police Command has paraded 10 suspects arrested in connection with kidnapping, armed robbery and impersonation.

Among the suspects paraded at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ogbor Hill, Aba, were Kelvin Peter Harrison, Belenu Victor Chijioke, Okechukwu Madubuko, Egbuke Jibuhi and Orji Henry.

Other suspects are Chief Anayo Nwankwo, Iheonuekwu Iroegbu, Ikedichukwu Anum, Kenneth Madumere, Promise Onwusibe and Chimezie Electra.

Also paraded was one Mba Akachukwu, who claimed to be a lawyer and was arrested by the police after a tipoff.

Items allegedly recovered from his apartment were counterfeit N500 and N1,000 notes, deeds of agreement, letterhead of Aba North Local Government Area, receipts/invoices, two fake identity cards showing him as a litigation officer, and Aba North Task Force ID card, among others.

Items also recovered from the other suspects are double-barrel guns, some live cartridges, mobile phones, motorcycles, laptop, Indian hemp and locally-made cut-to-size gun etc.

Speaking while parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Basen Dapiya Gwana, assured residents of Aba and its environs of the commitment of the state Police Command to fight crime and ensure that there was adequate security in the state.

Gwana noted that the command had the requisite personnel to combat crimes and criminality in the state, adding that logistics remained a major challenge facing the command.

The CP also disclosed that his men rescued a lawyer identified as Ukpai Ukairo and two other occupants of his car kidnapped along with him on Aba-Enugu Expressway while they were coming back to Aba from Umuahia.

He added that the police had launched manhunt on other members of the gang and would arraign the culprits in court as soon as investigation into their matters was concluded.
