Job seeker steals car in Lagos, arrested in Ondo

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Dele Adeoye, for allegedly stealing a car from the roadside on Victoria Island.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Adeoye, a job seeker who lived in Akure, Ondo State, had come to Lagos in September.

It was gathered that on September 5, the suspect allegedly sneaked into Saka Tinubu Street on the Island, and stole a Honda CRV with number plate, JF 995 EKY.

Our correspondent learnt that the matter was reported at the Victoria Island Police Division.

A police source told PUNCH Metro that Adeoye was trailed to Akure, two weeks after the incident, where he was arrested.

He said, “The vehicle belonged to a man, Feyi. He parked it by the roadside on the Island. The suspect stole it from the place. He took the vehicle to Akure. He has no fixed address in Lagos State. We trailed him to Ondo and arrested him before he could get a buyer for the vehicle.”

Adeoye, who is also an ex-convict, told the police that he was planning to sell the car.

He said, “I have no work. I live in Akure. I came to Lagos State on Sunday. That was a day before I stole the car. I drove it to Akure. I wanted to sell it.”

Also, two suspected robbers – Moses Fashade and Toheeb Amasaku – were arrested by the police in the Abattoir area of Agege during a stop-and-search.

The suspects, who were apprehended by the Abattoir division, were in a commercial bus on Saturday around 6pm, when the police intercepted them.

It was learnt that after searching them, the police recovered a locally-made pistol, two live cartridges, a laptop, six mobile phones and N8,500.

A police source said the suspects were either coming from or heading for a robbery operation when they were arrested.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrests.
