A suspected serial rapist, Segun, aka Mago, who allegedly raped three girls in Omojoda community, Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State, has been arrested.
Our correspondent learnt that Mago, who had been in hiding since May 2015, after he allegedly raped the girls, was arrested on Tuesday after he sneaked into Omojoda.
He was reportedly arrested by policemen attached to the Imota Police Division.
PUNCH Metro had reported on May 25, 2015, that residents of Omojoda community organised a search party for the suspect, who allegedly raped the girls before fleeing the area.
It was reported that the police at the Area N Command, Ijede, were on the heels of the suspect, who also allegedly belonged to a cult.
A resident had told our correspondent that Mago, after allegedly raping his victims, also cleaned their private parts with a white handkerchief.
The suspect also reportedly brought his gang members to rob the residents on several occasions.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, a Community Development Association chairman in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mago was arrested while playing football with some young men on a field.
He said, “Apart from the cases of rape for which he was wanted, we heard that Mago went with some cult boys to the Emuren area to kill some people to mark their cult anniversary.
“He belonged to the Eiye Confraternity. He was arrested on Wednesday. He sneaked into the area, thinking that everyone had forgotten about the rape cases.
“He was playing football with some young men on a field when policemen were alerted and they came to arrest him. We heard that some top people wanted him released. We do not want that to happen.
“He had also sneaked into the community, sometime in May 2016. He engaged in some cult fights and he fled.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest, adding that the case had been transferred to the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, for further investigation.
She said, “The serial rapist has been arrested. He has also been transferred to the SARS, Ikeja.”
