There was pandemonium at City Gates Ministries in Benin, the Edo State capital, when a middle-aged man was found nude in the church premises.

The strange man, who claimed to hail from Delta State, was said to have been sighted in the early hours of Monday by members of the church.

It was learnt that some members of the church suspected him to be a wizard as he looked unkempt, skinny and had a fracture in his right knee.

It was learnt that the strange man had claimed that he was later led into the church by a “spirit” and could not locate his way out.

The Spiritual Leader of the church, Prophet Ojo Agge, said he was shocked when he woke up to discover a naked man in his church.

Agge explained, “Suddenly, this morning (Monday), he was found inside the premises. He said that he came in from Agbaru, the spiritual world. He got to Ring road and hovered, according to his words.

“He told me that he battled and battled. So from that battle, he did not know how the spirit carried him.

“As he was crossing this place, he landed and he could not go out anymore. He said that since he was in the house of God, he was ready to surrender.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Theodore Okafor, could not be reached for comments.

Calls to his mobile phone did not connect as of the time of filing the report.

However, the development was said to have disrupted activities in the church as some of the members could not fathom the strange occurrence.

Many of them were said to have wondered how the strange man gained access into the church premises since the gates were locked.

One of them, Peace Lebechi, described the development as embarrassing, adding that the church had not witnessed such an incident in the past.

“It was an embarrassing thing because I cannot imagine someone like this coming out naked and he is claiming to be a wizard,” said.

She added, “This is my first experience to see something like this. So, it is embarrassing and as a young man, I think he should have a better life to live than to be used spiritually.”

Another member, Isibor Osamuyi, also expressed surprise as he narrated the incident.

Osamuyi said, “It was very surprising when I came to the (church) compound and found a young man who claimed that he was being used by a spirit he could not explain.

“He said he battled at Ring road from that village and landed here (church). I asked him what he his assignment was but he said that he did not know, that he was confused and did not know what to do.”
