The corpse of a teenage boy suspected to have been killed by hoodlums has been recovered on Olabode Street, Ikotun, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that there were bruises indicative of cutlass injuries on the body of the victim, whose name had yet to be ascertained.
It was gathered that the corpse was discovered by a resident, identified only as Salamatu, who woke up around 5.30am last Wednesday to perform Subuhi (early morning) prayer.
The woman was said to have screamed, drawing the attention of other residents who rushed to the scene.
Our correspondent was told that the case was reported to the police at the Ikotun division, who took the corpse to the Yaba General Hospital morgue.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Wale Akinsanya, said he was performing the morning devotion in his room when he was alarmed by Salamatu’s scream.
He said, “I rushed to the scene and saw the victim on the street with bruises all over his body. He should be around 18 years.”
Another resident, Lere Famurewa, said he heard suspicious sounds earlier, but was afraid to go out to see what transpired.
“I peeped from my window but I didn’t see anybody; that was around 4am. The strange sounds continued for a while.
“Around 6am, I learnt that a corpse was dumped on the street,” he said.
A police source told PUNCH Metro that no suspect had been arrested in connection with the murder.
“Nothing was found on the deceased to trace his residence and assailants,” the source added.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, in a text message, stated that investigation was ongoing on the incident.
