A 19-year-old man, Emmanuel Monday, was arraigned on Wednesday in an Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a laptop and other valuables, valued at N178,000.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing three counts of stealing, burglary and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Corporal Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused and others, still at large, committed the offences on November 13, 2016, about 12.30pm on Akanni Street, Ologun-Ota, Ogun State.

Mustapha said the accused and his accomplices conspired to break into the house of one Olarinde Oluwaseyi and stole a Lenovo laptop and other valuables valued at N178, 000.

He said, “The owner was not at home, so the defendant and his accomplices broke into the house and stole the valuables.”

He added that the offences contravened sections 390(9), 412 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Law of Ogun State, 2016.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Funke Odubanjo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She subsequently adjourned the case for hearing.
