Three persons, comprising two suspected kidnappers and a member of a private security outfit, Danga Security, lost their lives during a fierce gun battle between a combined team of policemen and men of the private security outfit in Bauchi State.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement said the gun battle with the kidnappers lasted for more than one hour. He said a member of the Danga Security outfit and the two deceased suspected kidnappers were critically injured and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Mohammed, a Superintendent of Police, said two female hostages, Maryam Shu’aibu and Hauwa’u Karfe, from Bauchi State were rescued from the kidnappers while one suspect was arrested.
He listed the exhibits recovered from them to include one K2 rifle with beech no. 2016576, one magazine, 15 rounds of live ammunition and other “incriminating” items.
He said the case was under investigation and efforts were being intensified to apprehend other fleeing suspects and bring them to book.
