For allegedly conspiring and forging the will of one late Chief Bernard Ogbolumani, a popular Asaba-based legal practitioner, Mr. Emeka Okonkwo and an Anglican Church clergyman, Rev. Samuel Azuka Ogbolumani and three others were at the weekend remanded in Ogwashi-Uku Prisons by the order of a Federal High Court, Asaba, in Delta State.
Justice Okon Abang remanded the five accused, including the son of the deceased person (Rev. Samuel Ogbolumani) for forgery pending the determination of their bail application.
Mr. Chijindu Iloba Obanya (a.k.a. Jindu), Edozie Nwabuoku and Emeka Eseokwu were also remanded in prison custody on a seven-count charge, which included forgery.
The defendants were docked by the police after the conclusion of a forensic investigation to ascertain the validity or otherwise of the Testamentary Instrument/Will of Ogbolumani, which was suspected to have been forged. Going by investigations, Ogbolumani’s will was allegedly forged by the deceased’s son in connivance with Okonkwo.
The case, with charge No FHC/ASB/9c/2017, is between the Inspector General of Police and the defendants who all pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Prior to the forensic investigation conducted by the police, some of the children of the deceased had contested the validity of the purported will.
In his ruling, the presiding judge, while making an order remanding the five defendants in prison custody, declared that the case, which is a criminal matter, would be given accelerated hearing as soon as it commences trial on October 23 2017, the next adjourned date.
