A two-year-old baby boy, Ikechukwu Nwachukwu, has been stolen from his parents’ home in Umuihim village in Umuozu Ugiri Community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to Mr Remigus Nwachukwu, an uncle of the stolen child, the two-year-old was allegedly stolen by one Ifeanyi Anyanwu, a tailor in the village.
The traumatised source said, “The child woke up that Saturday morning and was strolling within the compound around 7.00am when this Ifeanyi came and held Ikechukwu by the hand. People who saw him thought it was normal until about 9.30 that morning when the boy’s mother started looking for him to eat his breakfast.
“The woman didn’t suspect anything when she learnt that her son was with Ifeanyi. But when the time started pushing towards 10 and 11 that morning, everybody was alarmed and we eventually learnt that Ifeanyi was not at home. His wife and only daughter who had been at home since Monday were not at home again. It was then that people started looking for Ifeanyi and the little boy.
Nwachukwu said that the suspect who was on the run had switched off his cell phone.
Confirming the development, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said that the command was trailing the suspects.
Ezike disclosed that he had ordered for the transfer of the case file from Isiala Mbano Division to the State Criminal and investigation Department for a more professional approach.
The CP said, “I am aware of the abduction. I have ordered the transfer of the matter from the Mbano Division to the State CID.
“We have the photograph and all the details of the suspect. He can run, but he cannot hide for a long time. This crime is a huge one and we are not resting until we nab the suspect and have the child reunited with his family.”
