An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court presided over by Mrs. Adenike Olowolagba on Wednesday sentenced a female ex-convict, Nofisat Raji, to six months imprisonment for stealing a Techno mobile phone and a laptop computer.
Raji, who is 35 years old was arraigned by the police on four counts including stealing.
The prosecutor, Joshua Oladoye, told the court that Raji committed the offence on August 30, 2017, at about 12.30pm at Fayemi Street, Osogbo.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence committed contravened Section 412, Section 390(9) and Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9)of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
The charge sheet read, ” The convict entered the house of one Akindele Deborah Oluwakemi and stole one Techno Y6 mobile phone valued N14,500.
“Nafisat on the same day at about 11pm at Akeju Street opposite Government Technical College in Osogbo, entered into the dwelling house of one Olaboopo Mubarak and and stole one HP Pavilion laptop valued at N45,000.”
The convict pleaded guilty to all the four count charge preferred against her by the police.
Her counsel, Okobe Najite, prayed the magistrate to temper justice with mercy in delivering her judgement.
The magistrate sentenced Raji to six months imprisonment and ordered that the laptop and phone recovered from her be returned to the complainant.
Olowolagba, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N3,000. She had yet to pay the fine as of the time our correspondent left the court.
