A 37-year-old man, who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl (name withheld) has been remanded by Magistrate (Mrs.) F.O. Kalu in the Federal prisons in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The accused person, who is facing charges of felony and rape at Asaba Chief Magistrate Court, also allegedly stabbed one Ms. Agnes Sylvester in the process.
Police Prosecutor, Ndidi Ahamefulu, told the court that the accused person committed the offences sometimes in August, 2017, as he forcefully had a carnal knowledge of the victim, adding that the offence contradicts section 358 of the Criminal Code of Delta State.
According to Ahamefulu, the stabbing of Ms. Agnes Sylvester was an offence against the state and punishable under section 355 of the Criminal Code of Delta State.
Magistrate Kalu, however, did not take plea of the accused person as she ordered that the man be remanded in Ogwashi-Uku prisons, directing that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutor for legal advice.
Also, two men, Ugwoke Clement and Ogbonna Christopher, both domiciled in Asaba, the state capital, were arraigned before the magistrate on three counts of felony, stealing and conspiracy.
The Police Prosecutor, Victor Barch, told the court that the two accused persons allegedly stole about seven cartons of drug consignment valued at about N403, 000 owned by Preferred Drug Nigeria Limited.
The offence contravened section 427 of the criminal code law of Delta State.
Barch said that Clement was however charged with willfully receiving a stolen consignment of tablets valued at N67,000 from Mr. Ogbonna, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 427 of the criminal code.
However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges read to them and the Magistrate, Mrs. Kalu, after hearing from both parties, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N500, 000 and a surety in the like sum.
The surety, according to the magistrate, must be resident within the court jurisdiction and duly verified by the Court Registry.
