A DNA paternity test carried out on a baby who was born after her mother was allegedly raped by two men, has revealed the real father of the child.
According to the First Information Report filed by the police on the incident, the DNA test identified Babangida Awaisu as the father of the baby that resulted from the sexual assault on one Bilikisu by both Awaisu and one Shamsu Umar in November, 2016.
The two men have been remanded in the prison custody until December 27, 2017 when their case will come up for mention before Hajiya Falile Dikko of the Katsina State Senior Magistrates’ Court.
They are facing criminal conspiracy and rape charges.
Umar, 33, and Awaisu, 38, both of Gafat Quarters, Katsina, were alleged to have conspired and raped Bilikisu, who was 14 years then on November 29, 2016.
The police said the two accused persons and the victim’s parents were co-tenants in the house where the crime was committed.
According to the police report, Umar raped the victim first before Awaisu had his turn with her.
The victim reportedly became pregnant from the act which resulted in the birth of the baby boy who is now a year old.
When the duo were arraigned last Friday, a separate charge of rape was made against Awaisu by the prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, who told the court that investigation was still in progress and requested an adjournment.
Hajiya Dikko subsequently adjourned the case for mention and directed that Umar and Awaisu should be remanded in the prison custody.
