A pair of sandals and a shirt left behind by a robbery suspect at the scene of crime have led to his arrest and his gang members.
Two persons arrested with the suspects are in prison custody.
The suspects are Aminu Sani, 25; Abdurahman Umar, 25, and Ibrahim Iliyasu, 30, all of Nasarawa Bugaje village in the Jibia Local Government area of Katsina State.
According to the police, Sani was arrested after the shirt and the sandals he abandoned at the crime scene were traced to him.
Umar and Iliyasu were arrested later following Sani’s interrogation.
The trio were arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrate’s court on Thursday on charges of conspiracy and armed robbery, offences which are contrary to Sections 6B1(b)(2) of the robbery and firearms special provision act, Cap R11,LFN 2004.
The police told the court that the accused on April 22, 2018, attacked one Tasiu Bello , also of Nasarawa Bugaje village in an attempt to make away with his unregistered Bajaj motorcycle and other items.
The incident reportedly occurred at Tsen Kura village when Bello was returning home from an outing.
Bello’s cry for help however attracted the nearby villagers who rushed to the scene.
The police added that the villagers’ intervention made the suspects to run away without taking the motorcycle away, although they reportedly made away with N580.
Sani reportedly left behind his shirt, a pair of sandals and a knife at the scene, which the police said were traced to him.
No plea was taken from the suspects as the presiding Senior Magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, said they were in court for cognizance purpose.
She also said the offence committed by the suspects was triable only at the high court.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that investigation was still in progress and pleaded for an adjournment..
