A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 19-year-old man, Isah Tanko, to six months in prison for house breaking and theft.
Tanko was docked alongside Mubarak Yusuf, 21, and Tanko Jiya, 25, on two counts of house-breaking and theft, contrary to Section 288 of the penal code.
The Prosecutor, Sgt Moses Emberga, told the court that Adaeze Nkem reported the matter on May 14.
Emberga said the complainant came back from work on the same date only to discover that her house had been burgled by unknown persons who made away with valuables worth N379,500.
He added that during investigation, the first and third defendants were arrested and they both confessed to have committed the offences along with two other people, now at large.
He explained that the second defendant was said to have bought a generator, one of the stolen items, from Tanko at the rate of N6000.
When the charges were read to them, Tanko pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency while the other two denied the allegations.
The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court for an adjournment to enable police to complete investigation in respect of the second and third defendants.
In her ruling, Magistrate Mariam Kings sentenced the first defendant to six months in prison with a fine option of N20,000 for each count.
Kings ordered that the second and third defendants be remanded in prison and adjourned the matter until May 31.
