Artisan nabbed in Enugu for reshaping stolen cars

An auto electrician is in police net in Enugu for reshaping stolen vehicles.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspect, John Chijioke, was part of a syndicate that specialised in stealing and remodeling vehicles, before selling them.

It was learnt that Chijioke, a native of Ebonyi State, was arrested while working on a stolen car at his shop in Mgbemena Street, Awada Layout, Onitsha, Anambra State.

The vehicle, a Toyota Highlander SUV, was recovered in Chijioke’s shop by operatives of the Ogui Division of the Enugu State Police Command, who arrested the suspect.

It was gathered that the said vehicle, with registration number ENU 358 NK, was stolen from the owner in the Awkunanaw area of Enugu on February 20.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said the vehicle was traced to the suspect’s shop in the course of investigations into the robbery.

Amaraizu added that the police was on the trail of other members of the gang.

According to him, Chijioke will be charged to court very soon.

In a related development, the Enugu State Police Command has advised members of the public, particularly commercial bus and taxi drivers as well as tricyclists or keke riders to refrain from accepting any gift, particularly drinks and other edible materials from their passengers.

Amaraizu, who gave the advice in a statement, said intelligence reports available to the Command indicated that a syndicate offered drugged drinks and food to unsuspecting drivers operating in the state.

He said the syndicate had made away with vehicles and tricycles of some drivers who accepted drinks and food items from them.

Amaraizu assured that the police would bring members of the said syndicate to book.
