Baby with heart outside dies, Gaidam mourns

The Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, on Tuesday expressed deep shock at the death of Baby Aisha Mustapha, who was born with a heart outside her body.

The baby was scheduled for an operation to save her life after the Yobe State governor had donated N2.5m for that purpose. However, she was lost soon, just before the travelling for the exercise began.

The governor, in a press statement by his Director of Press Affairs, Mallam Abdullahi Bego, said Gaidam had received with sadness the information about the passing away of Baby Aisha Mustapha, who was born in Goni Kori village, in Gaidam Local Government Area of the state, with her heart outside her chest 10 days ago.

Bego said she was hospitalised at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where she was due to be referred to the University of Enugu Teaching Hospital’s Cardio-Thoracic Center for a surgery to be done on her.

He added, “His Excellency had earlier paid the sum of N2.5m needed for the surgery but Aisha died shortly before she was taken to Enugu today” (on Tuesday).

“The governor’s thoughts and sympathies are with Baby Aisha’s parents at this time of loss to them.

“The governor prays Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss. He also implores Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant them another offspring from His Grace.

“The governor also thanks the team of medical specialists at the UMTH, led by Dr. Bashir Tahir, who worked so hard to help the late Aisha recovered from her ailment.”
