Lagos promises better facilities in schools

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State says his administration is making effort to improve the standard of education in the state by investing more in infrastructural projects.

He said the government was ready to restore public confidence in the quality of education in public schools by upgrading facilities and urging the support of the private sector.

Ambode spoke at the inauguration of a block of six classrooms, toilets and a borehole, donated by the Ford Foundation in conjunction with Journalists for Democratic Rights.

The inauguration held at the Farm Settlement Primary School, Odogunyan, in the Ikorodu area of the state, a statement said on Thursday.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello, said the donation would help complement efforts at meeting the standard set by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

He thanked the foundation for advancing human development through collaboration with government, private sector, academia and host communities.

He said, “As partners in progress, we consider this donation a demonstration of your belief in this administration’s policy of encouraging corporate organisations, public-spirited individuals, and other stakeholders to buy into our ‘adopt-a-school’ initiative.”
