LANDLORDS in some parts of Elioparanwo axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State are lamenting the dearth of tenants due to zero supply of electricity by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.

The landlords stated that while old tenants had left, new ones had refused to pack in after getting wind of the situation in the area.

One of the landlords on Chijioke Amadi Street, who identified himself as Chief Odion, said they had formed a committee in the past with the aim of improving electricity supply.

Odion recalled that two of his tenants left his house after complaining of high cost of running and maintaining their generators.

A landlady on neighbouring Chibyke Street, who simply identified herself as Madam Justina, said, “It was not long I came back from my father’s burial and noticed that my tenant has packed out.

Madam Justina lamented that since her tenant left unannounced in February, it had been difficult getting another tenant due to the near poor power supply in the area.

Speaking with Southern City News, Mr. Ojo, who works with one of the radio stations in Port Harcourt, said he would not renew his rent in the area after the expiration in August.

“It is better I move to a place where I will enjoy a reasonable level of power supply than stay here. We know the country is facing some challenges in the power sector, but we still have many areas that enjoy eight hours electricity supply every day.

“Here we get electricity three times a month and it comes in the night. This is not acceptable,” Ojo said.
